Its been one year now.
I love you still as much as i did,
on the day i got you as a little bunny,
and held you in fear that i might break your bones or that you'd bite me
as much as i held you so tight and shook your lifeless body on the carpet
hoping you'd do the smallest thing like move your little nose just the way you always did it
You didn't.
I wrapped you up in your bath towel,
and cradled you in my arms and cried hysterically for two nonstop hours
and as i held you, I woke daddy and mommy up,
called sister who was in sydney, called kyrie and theresa and joyce to cry.
I took a few snapshots of you, it was all i had to remember the little love i had for nine years
The pet people came to take you after awhile,
they put you in that little cage of theirs
the one you must be so unfamiliar with
(i'd figure if you were alive, you'd be peeing all over it in fear)
as i put you in, i secretly shook you
in pure desperation that you'd wake up
once again, You didn't.
I leaned over and kissed you on your forehead,
exactly on that special strand of white fur you had
I closed the cage, watched as the strange lady slowly carried you and put you into the van
and drove off with you.
I broke down, sat on the floor and cried.
Couldn't sleep that night.
365 days have gone by now
occasionally i still hold your little urn and sit at our favourite corner of the house
and talk to you about my day
I'm sorry i've been so busy lately to do that.
But i want you to know,
not a moment goes by, when i listen to that one song,
go by a pet shop, look at another rabbit that i don't think of you.
Wish you were still here.
I'm sure you'd love him too
I miss you.
